Overage fees are per extra active contact per month at the monthly-billing rate; yearly billing lowers them to about $0.082, $0.038, $0.018 and $0.0028. Yearly plans are paid upfront for twelve months, while overage is still billed monthly.
What counts as an active contact
An active contact is a unique person who interacts with any of your ManyChat automations during a billing month. One comment that triggers a DM makes the person active for that month. Ten follow-up messages to the same person add nothing; a second person does.
That definition is why comment-to-DM campaigns push the count up fast:
- A Reel with 400 keyword comments makes 400 active contacts, whatever you sent them
- Everyone who taps a Story reply trigger counts, even if they never buy
- The count resets monthly, so a viral post and a quiet post in the same month cost the same as the viral post alone
What a month actually costs
Three months, each with one post that draws a given number of keyword comments. The ManyChat cost is the cheapest tier that covers the volume, including overage where that is cheaper than the next tier:

Komently’s Free plan covers 1,000 DMs a month, so 300 commenters fit inside it. Pro is $29 a month ($19 billed yearly) with no DM limit, so 3,000 and 9,000 cost the same.
Monthly or yearly?
Yearly billing takes 18 to 30 percent off the tier price and a similar share off overage, but you pay the year upfront and commit to a tier. If your volume swings month to month, a yearly Essential plan can end up costing more than monthly Pro once overage is added.
A practical rule: pick monthly for the first two or three months, read the active-contact figure in your ManyChat billing page, then choose the yearly tier that covers your typical month with room to spare.
What changed in March 2026
Before March 2, 2026, ManyChat had a Free plan with up to 1,000 contacts and a Pro plan that started at about $15 a month and scaled with contact count. The new model kept the contact-based idea but cut the free allowance to 25 active contacts and split Pro into four tiers with published overage fees.
Some accounts that were on the old Pro plan before the change kept legacy pricing for a time. If you are on one, the price in your billing page is what applies to you, not the public page.
When ManyChat is worth the price
Plenty of businesses should pay it. ManyChat is the right choice when you need:
- More than Instagram and Facebook: WhatsApp, Telegram, TikTok, SMS or email from one inbox
- Long branching conversation flows built on a visual canvas, with conditions and tags
- Its template library, agency partners and native integrations
If that is your situation, budget for the tier that fits your busiest month, not your average month, because that is the month the overage lands.
The flat-price alternative
