Send images & audio in DMs
Attach an image or a voice note to an automation — it's delivered right after your message.
A picture of the freebie, a voice note that sounds like you — media makes automated DMs feel personal. You can attach one image or audio file to any automation that sends a DM, and it's delivered as a follow-up message right after your text.
Attach media to an automation
- 1
Open the message step
While creating (or editing) an automation, go to the content step and click Add image or audio under the DM message. - 2
Upload or reuse
Upload a new file, or pick one you've used before from your library — files are stored once and reusable across automations. - 3
Save
You'll see the attachment as a small card under your message. Save, and every DM this automation sends now includes it.
Formats, sizes & storage
- Images: JPG or PNG up to 8 MB. We automatically optimize them (resize + compress + remove hidden location metadata), so they send fast and look right in the DM thread.
- Audio: MP3, M4A, AAC or WAV up to 10 MB. For Instagram audiences, M4A/AAC/WAV are the safest formats.
- Storage: your media library has a file and size allowance that depends on your plan — Pro includes 150 files / 300 MB (AppSumo tiers and legacy plans have their own allowances). The exact numbers for your account are always shown in the meter at the top of the media picker. Compressed sizes count, so a typical image uses well under 0.5 MB — the file count is usually what matters, not the megabytes. Need more? Contact support and we'll raise it for you.
How it's delivered
- The media arrives as a second message right after your DM text — and counts as one more DM toward your sending limits. On a very busy post that means a media automation reaches people a little slower than a text-only one (nobody is skipped — sends are simply paced).
- For comment-triggered automations, the media is delivered once the person is in your DMs (for example right after they tap your first message's button) — Instagram only allows a single direct reply to a comment itself, and your text uses it.
- For email-collecting automations, media rides along with the content message.
- With AI replies, the media goes out with the first reply of a conversation — follow-up AI messages don't re-send it.
- Each file is uploaded to Instagram/Facebook once and reused for every send — so media DMs are just as fast as text ones.
- If a platform ever refuses the media (rare), your text message still goes out normally — the automation never breaks.
Voice notes convert
A 20-second personal-sounding audio ("hey, thanks for grabbing the guide…") regularly outperforms text-only DMs for creators — it's the closest thing to actually replying.Still need a hand? Email support@komently.com.
